Sustainable Seafood Week Goes National

We are excited to announce that Future of Fish, our affiliate Flip Labs, and Village Fishmonger are producing a culinary-fueled celebration of responsibly sourced seafood!

Sustainable Seafood Week National will bring chefs, fishermen, industry professionals, and fish fans together in cities across America.

In 2013, Village Fishmonger co-founders Samantha Lee, Dennis O’Connor and Sean Dixon noticed a disconnect between New York City residents and nearby fisheries. In response, they collaborated with Future of Fish to create Sustainable Seafood Week NYC. Last year the week kicked off with a shindig hosted by Riverpark that had an all-star chef lineup. Events also included an oyster mixology challenge and a five-course supper club.

Now the week is expanding nationwide with national sponsorship by Whole Foods Market and Taylor Shellfish Farms. The delicious and educational series begins in New York City from June 22 to 28. Seattle takes place August 3 – 8. San Francisco goes from September 13 to 20, and Washington, D.C., will be September 22 to 26.

Every week invites locals to discover traceable, renewable and trustworthy seafood. The opening gala is an opportunity to meet culinary celebrities and dine on delicious, responsibly sourced fish. Future of Fish will lead exclusive gatherings called Industry Lab that convene leading scientists, advocates, food service pros, entrepreneurs, distributors and chefs to explore central issues in the seafood industry.

Top restaurants are preparing dishes specially for the week and reservations will be available through OpenTable. Local flavor events highlight each region's maritime history and unique culture. We also welcomed Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program and FishChoice.com as our national partners. Media partner TriplePundit.com will shine a light on the stories behind the fish.
