We're like proud parents on the day our kid made honor roll. Flip Labs, the company spun out of Future of Fish in September to bring our style of systems thinking to the non-fish world, has been named a B Corporation.
Flip Labs was founded by CEO Cheryl Dahle explicitly to take the approach pioneered in four years of work in fisheries system reinvention and apply it to other systems. Flip Labs will use the same methods of problem re-framing, collaboration with system players, and entrepreneurial energy to invent new futures for other complex problems.
If you're not already familiar with them, B Corporations use the power of business for good. Certification through the nonprofit B Labs means meeting rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
"B Corp is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk," the B Corporation website explains.
Future of Fish was the springboard for launching Flip Labs. The methodology that Dahle and her team developed for the seafood supply chain can now be used on a broader scale. Instead of promoting the idea of a silver bullet, or a “there is one best solution” approach, Flip Labs cultivates ecosystems of solutions to drive change.
Flip Labs joins more than 1,200 B Corporations from 34 countries. Fellow certified companies include familiar names like Dansko, Ben & Jerry's, Etsy, and Patagonia.
"Becoming a B Corp is walking the talk, living the values we say we revere," Dahle said. To learn more about Flip Labs' commitment to elevating people and the planet, check out the new profile page within the B Corporation community.
